Get Lost

So you drove to Joshua Tree

If you're like me, some days you just really need this world to put itself back into perspective for you. Ever just crave feeling small? Desire to be dwarfed by the natural world? With so many stressors and nitty-gritty problems of your day-to-day, sometimes you just need to completely transform what's in front of you in order to remember what's important.
-
Joshua Tree offers just that: a change of perspective. The great wide open. The desert, in its vastness and simple palette, offers a gift to each visitor. I won't tell you much more than that, because I can't. It's an experience you simply have to have for yourself.
-
So here's my one and only tip: Get Lost. Take a walk or a drive without a plan. Just bask in the dry air and find your balance in the silence of the desert. Find something in all the nothing.

curator sheri elf is sweet and quirky, and this space could be described as joshua tree's honorary badge of weirdness. don't judge by the name (don't judge at all, actually) just go - please go - and enjoy

World Crochet Museum

be prepared to get absolutely bodied by the wind, and absolutely mind-blown by the views. this is a must-stop for sunset

Heart Rock

not to be confused with the hard rock cafe...this tourist attraction isn't as easy to find - There is no official trail to Heart Rock. With no path & no cell service, follow your heart to find this beauty.

explore the coolest outdoor museum - free, open to the public, and wildly unique. the definition of "one man's trash..."

The Noah Purifoy Museum

Now that you know where the must-stops are, you are ready to take your own trip to the beautiful california desert.

Here's a few things to consider:

- you are in the desert. Seems obvious but remember that TEMPERATURES are extreme and you can be hot during the day but cold at night so come prepared with layers!
- It may not be what it seems. Check your hike BEFOREHAND and make sure you are choosing one that you are prepared for. Nothing worse than thinking you have a fun, easy hike ahead of you but you end up on a tougher hike than you thought.
- Don't be afraid of the dark. So many of NATURE'S wonders are EVEN more BEAUTIFUL at night so GRAB your HEADLAMP and start your trek to find a great spot to gaze at the stars.
