Bali: Off the Beaten Path Guide

Bali is one of my all-time favorite places to visit. Eating, exploring, and talking with the locals makes it an exhilarating yet peaceful experience that rejuvenates my soul. What makes Bali so unique is not their popular attractions (those can drive me crazy!) but rather the off the beaten path trails, forests, and dives. For the realest, most unique Bali experience, keep reading so both your life and stories you tell can be filled with adventure.

Monkey Forest, Ubud

Located in Ubud, this sacred monkey sanctuary is home for hundreds on monkeys that you can hang out with all day. Since monkeys symbolize clarity, honor, and curiosity, hanging with these little guys can allow me to refocus on my true goals and aspirations while also being of great company to the animals. This rare and sacred experience is a must in my book if you want to realign, refocus, and experience such a surreal moment!

Nothing satisfies the stomach more than Babi Guling—or suckling pig—after a long day in Ubud. Indonesia is popular for this dish and it is incredible! Make sure to try some out after you hang with the monkeys.

Walks in the Rice Field, Ubud

Right near the Monkey Sanctuary in Ubud are the coolest rice fields that only a true local would need to know in order to get there. The Ubud Rice Fields are a great place to go for a sunrise walk—the scenery gives off major Jurassic Park vibes!

Single Fin Restaurant, Uluwatu

A Sunday at Single Fin is one of the best things you can do for yourself while you’re in Indonesia. This 5-story (yes, FIVE story) bar located in Uluwatu has the most insane views of the country. Whether you’re just out day-drinking with friends, meeting locals, or watching the sunset over the seemingly endless ocean, stop by here for a drink or snack and make sure to snap a pic for me. Their food menu is unreal—if I somehow didn’t convince you to stop by, make sure to check out what they have to offer for food and drinks.

Potato Head Beach, Seminyak

Potato Head Beach is another perfect place to stop on the water and watch the sun set all while listening to chill live music. The Potato Head Beach Club also has incredible drinks and food with their poolside bars and infinity pools. My favorite thing to do there is to grab a bean bag, sit by the water with my friends, and watch the sunset slowly dip into the water and fade away.

Mount Batur

There’s just something about watching the sun rise while sitting above the clouds that digs deep into the soul. A couple hours of hiking are totally worth the breathtaking views that come with standing on top of a volcano. A sunrise hike to what feels like the top of the world is rejuvenating and soul awakening—you have to do it!

All-in-all, Indonesia is full of hidden gems—you just have to know where to look. Making friends with the locals and experiencing their country in the way it was meant to be experienced is the best advice I could give. Ask them for the best spots, their favorite views and bars, and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

Peace,
