Afternoon in Wynwood Miami: Lyfe in Color

Miami is one of my favorite kind of cities — vibrant, multi-cultural, and life-filled. It’s known for its bright, bustling streets, beautiful beaches, and of course a notorious night life scene, but some of my favorite features are the more underrated: super cool street art and some great tucked away shops and restaurants. Check out some of my favorite spots to add some authenticity on your visit to this well known tourist destination.

IMG_7337.JPGWynwood Walls

This outdoor museum space is one of the coolest spots in South Florida: graffiti artists from all over the world come to showcase their work and cover Miami’s walls in color and design. It’s amazing to be surrounded by these huge pieces of art which are constantly evolving, changing, and expanding. Some of my favorite designs aren’t even in the core of the Wynwood walls exhibit spaces, but on side streets and alleyways branching out from the area. The Wynwood Kitchen and Bar is an great place to grab a bite or cocktail while you admire the art, and I’ll tell you about some of my other favorite food and drink spots in the area too!

Coyo Taco

There’s just something so good about enjoying a messy taco and a cold margherita on a hot Miami day and Coyo Taco knocks it out of the park with their authentic Mexican grub. You have options from tacos to burritos to salad bowls, and you can even grab a couple churros or a homemade Mexican popsicle if you’ve got a sweet tooth. (My mouth is watering writing this and it’s only gonna get better…)

Beaker & Gray

If you’re a lover of classic pub food, this is a great spot to enjoy the familiar but expand your palette a little. Beaker & Gray serves elevated and delicious meals like cheeseburger croquettes, shrimp taquitos, and pumpkin gnocchi. The cocktail menu is just as impressive, and the chefs worked to incorporate tons of options for pairings worth trying. They also have a killer brunch menu and a happy hour so it’s great for a visit any time of day.

KUSH

An eco-friendly gastropub with an extensive craft brew selection where you can order anything from Florida Alligator Bites, to “Grandpa Joe’s Pastrami Rueben,” to Vegan Jambalaya — need I say more? It’s an awesome spot, with something for everyone.

Go Bistro

Is Miami too hot for soup? Debatable, but I’d argue that it’s never too hot for ramen, and Go Bistro is my favorite spot in this area to grab an amazing bowl. This is a great little spot to head to with friends and enjoy ramen, sushi, pork belly buns, avocado fries, and, hey, maybe a bottle of cold sake. No judgement here on day drinking, especially if it’s paired with awesome food.

IMG_7343.JPGOkay, time to walk off lunch.

One of my favorite things about Miami, and the Wynwood area in particular, is how walkable everything is, and how much you see while walking that you might miss in your car or Uber. Be sure to keep your eyes open for cool street art — paintings and sculptures alike — tucked in alleyways, on fences, even stamped on the concrete, as well as pop up shops or temporary store fronts that you won’t find on Google.

Basico Wynwood

I’m attracted to bright colors and cool shapes, so the archway leading into this store was an instant eye-catcher for me. Geometric blocks in classic Floridian hues welcome you into a store that offers styles just as fun and interesting. This is a great stop for unique men’s fashion, shoes, and sunglasses definitely worth a stop.

Aviator Nation

This 70’s inspired California brand is one of my favorites, and their flagship Miami store is a must visit. They have tons of great men and women’s apparel featuring dynamic designs and colors that hint at its West Coast roots. My career requires comfortable but still polished looking clothing and this shop offers some of my favorite joggers and jackets that fit the bill.

If you love comfortable clothes as much as I do, you’ll want to buy everything in this store. Neutral toned lounge-meets-streetwear line all their racks and I guarantee you’ll walk out with at least one piece. They also have awesome eyewear options and all their pieces are made with comfort, quality, and sustainability in mind. So good.

Unknwn

Co-founded by Lebron James, this is an awesome spot to peruse a ton of favorite brands and meet new ones. Far from only offering sportswear and accessories, you can find streetwear, denim, wallets, books, candles and more at this shop. I love visiting to find new designers and enjoy the cool ambiance while shopping fresh new pieces.

There’s so much more to see throughout the city of Miami, from the neighboring design district to Zoo Miami to the gorgeous Miami beaches. Stick around and maybe I’ll share more of my favorites from this colorful city.
