How to Get Your Groove Back

However focused and driven we might be, life has an uncanny ability to throw us off track at times. Whether it be because of low energy, the modern world of endless digital distractions, or being caught up in supporting the constant needs of friends and family, getting back to your groove can seem like a monumental challenge.

There are many aspects of my current life that I am looking to work on and improve. At the top of the list is improvement and maintenance of my mental and physical health. Followed by that is my desire to take my company to the next level. My third current goal is purposefully incorporating quality time with those I hold dearest to my heart.

Focus, Self discipline, and self-motivation are my keys to success. In fact my personal mantra – which I  repeat in my head everyday – is focus + discipline equals success

This mantra, these goals, are not easy to practice consistently, but the rewards are very real. When I’m executing focus and discipline successfully, I truly feel unstoppable. I get to experience high energy days, fulfillment in life and friendships, productive work relationships, and mindfulness – all vibrating on their highest level.

Then one day I’ll slip up and opt to skip the gym or scroll through my phone instead of spending time reading. Or my friends suggest a smoke break and I join even though I know I should first spend some time working and focusing. Bad habits, especially these small and insignificant ones, so easily snowball into more and more poor life choices, like eating junk food that doesn’t properly fuel my body or boost my mood, skipping opportunities to be active or exercise my mental stamina, going weeks without connecting with friends that keep me accountable and encourage healthier habits. Sometimes, poor life choices take longer to fully make themselves known, but other times, there’s an instantaneous effect. For example, just one day of low physical activity, bad food, smoking, and no hydration takes its toll the very next morning when I wake up.

On the other hand, sometimes I’ll have a stellar week: at the gym doing two a days, some yoga and running, writing new blogs for the Lyfe Choyces website, and getting fresh reels filmed, edited, and scheduled. Then, when an old friend hits me up to grab drinks comes up and it’s easy to say, sure, I’ve been productive this week – I deserve this! The challenging part is that drinks often turn into a late night, which turns into sleeping in, starting my day late, and there’s that snowball effect again. The key is knowing that off days are inevitable, and stopping the snowball before it gets too far along.

These different scenarios are just some examples of the challenges I face when trying to stick to a system of good habits. Everyone has their own unique set of distractions that kick you off course. Getting back into the groove can be difficult but very necessary if you truly want great success in your life.

Here are a few things I do to get my groove back:

Get Started Early + With Gratitude

First, I make it a habit to start my morning ritual when my 4:30 am alarm goes off. I lay in bed with my eyes open and give a little gratitude  speech to and for myself and then for those in my life.

I remind myself that reading 20 pages a day is going to not only educate me a little more every day, but it will also get me to my long term goal of reading over 100 books in a year.

I remind myself about how I have way higher energy on the days I do go to the gym, even  if I don’t feel like going.

Having a Strategy for When Things Get Overwhelming

When I get overwhelmed, I make it a point to get my dog Sushi ready, and we go for a very long walk, sometimes for a few hours and I think out loud. I go over everything that’s in my way, big or small, and put it into words. Sometimes I’ll speak loudly, just to feel like I’m addressing and getting the bad energy out of myself. I remind myself of everything I have accomplished, and everything I will accomplish moving forward.

Take Responsibility, and Make Your Moves

I realize that it’s up to me and only me to get myself back on track and go get it!

So go get your groove back, Mo*@#er F*@#er! You got this. Nobody is in your way but you.

I choose to grind. I choose to feel better. I choose to be focused and disciplined because I want great successes in my life. I hope you choose the same – It’s Your Move.
