The Move

There’s rarely going to be a golden ticket or a massive billboard that tells you this is your time, that this is your moment. Life just doesn’t work like that, you know?

We try to bridge the gap for each other. We’ve all seen the “if you’re looking for a sign, this is it” graffiti. We’ve all been exposed, in some way or another, to the call to action that is “Do what you want to do! Make the leap!” So, why doesn’t it ever feel personal? Why are the stories about getting goosebumps and pulling out all your life savings and starting a roaringly successful business so few and far between? And why don’t they feel that real?

Let me offer you some deep relief: the world is not in charge of your next bit of magic – you are.

You can go on a 2 mile run every morning and spend the whole time in your head, with discouragement and criticism bouncing back at you, magnified and megaphoned by the echo chamber that is your brain. You can meditate and feel like a chess piece a mile away from the board. Are you waiting for an invitation to participate in your own life?

Accepting that it’s your move isn’t just about booking a trip, starting that novel, or finally getting that LLC. It’s about stepping up for yourself. It’s waking up and saying, I’m about to have a bad-ass day, even when you really don’t feel like it. If you don’t step up for yourself, who will?

Your friends might adore you, your parents might believe in you, you can have a thousand people on your side but, hear me out, if you don’t want it, if you don’t want to see yourself succeed – it’s all for naught..

Let’s check out the other side of that coin: say you have just one stupid joke, one skit idea, one new idea, new perspective. If you head in buoyed by the belief that you’ve got something good – that YOU’RE valuable and therefore you have something valuable to offer, the road could be smooth or rough, but you’ve got the right fuel in your engine.

And that’s what I mean when I say – it’s your move.

“Let me offer you some deep relief: the world is not in charge of your next bit of magic – you are.”
