Portugal: A Weekend in Porto

Portugal is a country that holds a special place in my heart. My favorite town by far to hang out in is called Porto, which is on the Northwest side of the country. Porto is right on the water so, of course, one of my favorite activities has to be watching the sunset. The hardest part of that is figuring out where to eat after! The charming town is perfect for a weekend getaway, so make sure to stay tuned to find out the best spots to hang.

Praia des Pastoras

Praia des Pastoras isn’t quite a beach, but rather a long shoreline that’s perfect in the evening for watching the sunset. It has a great view of the beautiful Felgueiras Lighthouse and is perfect for walking along with friends or even running on for a good workout. Walking all the way out on the jetty to the Felgueiras Lighthouse is a great idea—the sound of the wind slapping against the rocks and the wind blowing gently across your face is a great way to end the day if you ask me.

Church of Santo Ildefonso

This church is such a unique and incredibly built monument that it has to be visited if you’ll only be in Porto for a little. Not only is the exterior absolutely stunning, but the inside is just as jaw-dropping. Spiritual or not, I guarantee that this incredible building will make your soul stir.

International Beach

Surfing might not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about this cool city, but this places definitely has some great beaches to catch waves if it’s a good time of year. International Beach is a mellow spot for surfers that’s great if you’re just trying to get out on the water have a chill day with your friends. I would say anytime between March to September are great times to hit up the waves. If you’re looking for more challenging places, I would look into Luz or Leca.

City Strolling

My favorite way to explore this city is by renting a bike and seeing where the wheels take me. Porto is big but quaint at the same time, so biking down the small streets with my crew and stumbling upon local places to eat and explore really is the best option. The city is so colorful that biking or walking around is almost a destination itself.

The Douro River

Porto is situated just beautifully on the Douro River, which makes it a perfect place for a boat day. Whether it’s going on a boat tour or renting out your own boat for the day with the squad, nothing says “living your best life” like boating down a Portuguese River in a small town with your favorite drink in hand and best friends by your side.

You guys, Porto is such a sweet city that has so much to offer if you’re willing to look around. The local food is killer and the architecture and views are so one of a kind. Make sure to check it out if you’re ever in the area, I guarantee there’s no way you’ll regret it!

Peace,
