Paris: The Mainstream City and the Hidden Towns

Paris is called “The City of Love” for obvious reasons, but I like to think it is because of the stunning architecture, delicious cuisine, and welcoming locals that make it such a loving city. Though there are loads of activities to do alone or with friends in the city, there are also plenty of hidden gems in the surrounding cities that will make your experience unlike anyone else’s.

The Eiffel Tower

So, yes… this has to be the most touristy place to stop, but it’s still a must! The history behind the Eiffel Tower is best discovered by talking to locals and discovering it by walking around. Did you know every few years, the Eiffel Tower gets hand painted to preserve the color? How crazy! Make sure to take the elevator to the third level as well, you can’t just stop at the first or second level, even if you are afraid of heights. Test yourself!

Sainte Chapelle

This place is perfect for those who are spiritual, and those who love architecture alike. The stunning stained glass windows mixed with the Gothic style architecture makes it a must stop when in Paris.

Montmarte, France

About 20 minutes by train outside of Paris, this charming little town is perfect if you want to try fresh and local food without being bombarded by tourists. If you’re looking for great seafood nowhere near the ocean, hit up Le Sancerre—their half cooked tuna with mango is to die for! This city has a ton of history, with Van Gogh and Monet being just two of the many artists who resided there.

Parc de Buttes Chaumont, Paris

I couldn’t do an entire blog post without visiting somewhere near water and since Paris isn’t on the coast, I had to do some of my own digging to find the perfect spot on the water for me. Parc de Buttes Chaumont is in the Northeast part of Paris but has nothing at all of a city vibe. The best way I can describe this park is just pure magic with the peace and serenity as well as the beautiful architecture.

Luckily, Paris allows you to enjoy both the hustle + bustle or the peace + quiet. Whichever you prefer, make sure to take it all in!

Peace,
